Learning Reflection 1

Analog vs digital

Although I have grown up fully analog, I have embraced some aspects of the digital world. Some out of necessity, others out of curiosity and a need for a creative outlet. In many cases I feel a bit in middle of White’s diagram, but not really leaning towards any side. I still remember my first smartphone and my fascination with apps, I was downloading everything that could potentially turn out useful maybe once in my life – then it took a while to delete a lot of it 🙂

These days digital literacy is in my opinion necessary in many aspects of life. Having moved to Sweden without a personnumer or MobiltID I had to learn on the go how it works as without certain digital skills you cannot function here. As a comparison, a small surgery in London wanted me to pay with a check for sending my medical records over to Sweden about 2 years ago. This is not sustainable.

Work and this course

From my work experience – not as a teacher but as a corporate trainer amongst others – I realized that I have thrived in companies that have provided their employes a network and/or a platform with all possible tools and materials necessary for them to do their job. Cloud storage like Dropbox or Google Drive should be a basic resource in any company that has more than 2 employees.

I’m hoping this course will help me twofold. On one hand, I will gain the confidence and skills to run a language course fully online. I will make it engaging and manage to motivate people to learn a new language. On the other hand, I hope to become more efficient as a student. I love learning and hope to continue in many different freestanding courses over the coming years. However, I have noticed that there are resources online today, that weren’t there 20 years ago, which I knew nothing about. There is a whole world of knowledge and learning materials and I cannot wait to discover it.
