In my opinion, Module 1 is very interesting and I really enjoyed hearing more about the concept of Visitors and Residents (White, 2014), as well as reflections about the importance of positioning ourselves on the web.
I think that Prensky’s (2001) ideas, although very interesting and pertinent, are very dated and tied to the 2000s when it was still possible for some people to simply be absolutely out of the web. Today, 20 years later, depending on the country you live in, it is practically impossible not to have a certain “residence” on the web, since all relationships go through it in some way, whether they are financial, interpersonal or professional.
As teachers it is becoming more and more necessary to have a “resident” profile on the web (in addition to that classic profile on the institutional page), but a profile with quality and presence (be it a blog, a website, a LinkedIn profile), that promotes interesting, reliable, elaborated content and collaboration with peers.
Participating in national and international academic congresses, publishing in journals and annals, or publishing books is still a long way from being a scientific dissemination practice that can reach a wider audience, as not everyone has access. And for that, I believe that web tools can be well used in order to promote an expansion of knowledge as idealized in the past by the famous sociologist and researcher in information and communication science Pierre Lévy , who already in the 90s promoted the concept of collective intelligence and cyberdemocracy.
I consider the concept of development of digital literacies very important and the 20 tips (JISC, 2018), for the development of digital literacy seem very practical and feasible, making Central Not the technology but the people involved in the process of learning and teaching using technologies
These are some of the reflections that came to my mind at the moment on Module 1, but I am sure that many reflections will still come as the course is being very stimulating interesting.
Thank you!
