Welcome to our blog!\u00a0 My name is Miriam, a proud young Mozambican woman with a deep passion for exploring how colonialism and neo-colonialism continue to shape our world today. Growing up in Mozambique profoundly influenced my worldview and sharpened my critical thinking. It showed me that while many people believe colonialism is a thing of the past, the reality is much more complex.<\/span><\/p>\n

Mozambique, like many other countries in the \u201cGlobal South\u201d, continues to live with the legacies of colonialism, from unequal economic structures to systemic power imbalances. Growing up in a highly globalized world, I quickly realized that the malices of colonialism are not confined to history books\u2014they are still deeply institutionalized in the systems that govern global trade, development, aid, international relations, among other key systems that may support or hinder development. From a young age, these thoughts and feelings began to shape how I viewed my place in the world and instilled a deep need to be part of making a positive difference in the communities that surround me and beyond. It has shaped my academic and professional journey which has somehow led me to this blog\u2026<\/span><\/p>\n

In this blog, together with my colleagues,\u00a0 I aim to explore these issues critically. By understanding the impact of colonialism and neo-colonialism, particularly in the development sphere, we can begin to unlearn negative systems and replace them with more inclusive, equitable structures. My goal is to foster dialogue on how we can challenge these entrenched power dynamics and imagine new ways of working together that truly benefit the world.<\/span><\/p>\n

O meu nome \u00e9 Miriam e sou uma mulher jovem orgulhosamente mo\u00e7ambicano, com uma paix\u00e3o por explorar como o colonialismo e o neocolonialismo continuam a moldar o nosso mundo hoje. Ter crescido em Mo\u00e7ambique influenciou profundamente a minha vis\u00e3o do mundo e agu\u00e7ou o meu pensamento cr\u00edtico. Mostrou-me que, embora muitos acreditem que o colonialismo seja algo do passado, a realidade \u00e9 muito mais complexa.<\/span><\/p>\n

Mo\u00e7ambique, como muitos outros pa\u00edses do \u201cSul Global\u201d, continua a viver com as heran\u00e7as do colonialismo, desde estruturas econ\u00f4micas desiguais at\u00e9 desequil\u00edbrios de poder sist\u00eamicos. Ter crescido num mundo globalizado, percebi rapidamente que os males do colonialismo n\u00e3o est\u00e3o confinados aos livros de hist\u00f3ria \u2013 eles ainda est\u00e3o profundamente institucionalizados nos sistemas que governam o com\u00e9rcio global, o desenvolvimento, a ajuda humanit\u00e1ria, rela\u00e7\u00f5es internacionais, entre outros sistemas-chave que podem apoiar ou dificultar o desenvolvimento. Desde jovem, esses pensamentos e sentimentos come\u00e7aram a moldar a maneira como eu via meu lugar no mundo e plantaram em mim uma profunda necessidade de fazer parte de uma diferen\u00e7a positiva nas comunidades ao meu redor e al\u00e9m. Isso moldou a minha jornada acad\u00eamica e profissional, que de alguma forma me trouxe at\u00e9 este blog…<\/span><\/p>\n

Neste blog, com as minhas colegas, o meu objetivo \u00e9 explorar essas quest\u00f5es de forma cr\u00edtica. Ao compreender o impacto do colonialismo e do neocolonialismo, particularmente na esfera do desenvolvimento, podemos come\u00e7ar a desaprender sistemas negativos e substitu\u00ed-los por estruturas mais inclusivas e equitativas.
