You\u2019ve heard of activism, right? Making banners (where did I leave my paints again?), marching in the street (in the sun, in the cold, in the rain\u2026 urgh), and signing petitions (yawn!), and all those time-consuming things people in the sixties and seventies did\u2026 boring!<\/p>\n

Don’t they look exhausted? [1]<\/figcaption><\/figure>These days, there\u2019s a much easier way to show your support for a cause \u2013 with just a few clicks! It\u2019s called clicktivism. Catchy, right? And it\u2019s so, so easy. Here are ten steps to being the best clicktivist you can be.<\/p>\n

  1. Make sure it is about you<\/u>. <\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    I mean, of course you care about the cause, but the most important thing about being a clicktivist is to ensure people know it\u2019s you<\/em> who cares.<\/p>\n

    1. Selfies.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

      See point one, and it goes without saying: make sure there\u2019s a photo of you involved. If you really have time to kill, scribble something about the cause on a piece of paper and hold it up \u2013 but be sure to not cover your gorgeous face with it.<\/p>\n

      1. Share, share, share. <\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

        Make sure you don\u2019t focus on one particular cause: you don\u2019t want to bore your friends! Anything that is grabbing media attention is a good share, especially tragedies in the places that count like the US, or Europe.<\/p>\n

        Truly heartwarming [2]<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

        1. “Thoughts and prayers\u201d.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

          Some people say thoughts and prayers aren\u2019t that useful\u2014but they are! Adding something as simple as \u201cthoughts and prayers to the people of\u2026\u201d will ensure people (not those directly affected of course, that would be #awkward) know you truly care. If you\u2019re in a hurry, an easy #thoughtsandprayers will do. Speaking of which\u2026<\/p>\n

          1. #Hashtags.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

            This is crucial. Make sure you\u2019re using lots of them to get more #views and #likes. Pick the hottest cause and use the hashtag \u2013 your social media post needn\u2019t be related to the cause directly, the important thing is to add the right hashtags to make sure you get seen.<\/p>\n

            1. Inspiration.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

              Share your true feelings, especially when they’re about about how much #underprivileged people inspire you, humble you, and make you feel so much #gratitude.<\/p>\n

              1. Sacrifice.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

                Talk about how much you\u2019ve sacrificed to be able to contribute your precious time to the cause. For example, if you were late to your balayage appointment because you were signing a petition to save #strayAfricancats, make sure people know about it.<\/p>\n

                1. Stereotype your way there.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

                  Stereotypes are underrated. Generalising is so much easier \u2013 for example, #Africa is sufficient, no need to name the country, let alone the region the tragedy is occurring.<\/p>\n

                  1. Don\u2019t be overly Politically Correct<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

                    Nobody likes a PC nazi, so don\u2019t worry too much about stepping on anyone\u2019s sensitivities. Your heart is in the right place, that\u2019s all that matters. If you want to wear a Native American headdress at Halloween to show your support for indigenous struggles \u2013 go for it! #hatersgonnahate<\/p>\n

                    1. Last but not least, get some disciples<\/strong> to join your cause\/s.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

                      Talk about how your clicktivism has made a difference: how many children\/trees\/dolphins you\u2019ve saved with each click, to really inspire others to join you on your #selfless clicktivism #journey.<\/p>\n
