Dear Readers,
The time has come to say goodbye as our blog What The Aid is coming to an end. But let us first recap the last weeks.
The main goal of our blog was to raise awareness and encourage you, our readers, to reflect on our leading thread innovation for development and the transformative powers of technology in that regard. We wanted to build an open space with you to engage in critical reflections, feedback and own experiences to expand each other’s knowledge and as said before to raise awareness of these important topics.
We were talking about how technology has become an essential part of humanitarian aid work in the latest humanitarian response in the Ukraine and about the prevailing gender gap in humanitarian aid’s digital sphere and how ICTs make a start in eliminating this gap. Related to this thread, we also discussed racism in the aid industry and its implications for the work of aid organizations. Moreover, we addressed the topic of digital self-representation of refugees and how these can challenge stereotypical representations of refugees in mainstream media. Another related and very interesting thread we explored was how Telegram was used to guide refugees from Turkey to Europe. Last but not least, we dedicated our research to artificial intelligence like facial recognition and its biases like for instance racial and gender biases.
We hope that with our research and thoughts we were able to catch your attention and could maybe even provide some new insights and food for thought for you.
As for us, we very much enjoyed the engagement with you in our comment section. We received valuable feedback and new insights from you which enriched our content and provided us with new perspectives. Therefore, we would like to thank you for your time in reading our blog posts and for engaging with us in the comment section. Thank you!
This will now unfortunately be our last post on What The Aid. We hope you enjoyed the time with us as we did with you.
Thank you again and all the best
