In recognition of the countless efforts made by women around the world to advance women’s rights and human rights, we have chosen to honor some of them through our chosen pseudonyms.

Silvia
‘Silvia’ is a UK-based Swede working in communications in the international development sector. She’s passionate about local and global social justice and equality – much like the suffragette Silvia Pankhurst who spent her life fighting not only for women’s equality but also against colonialism and fascism.

Ruth
‘Ruth’ is currently living in Africa. She has mainly worked in the public sector. Ruth is passionate about peace, justice, and communication. She finds Ruth Bader Ginsburg inspiring as she was a leading voice for gender equality, women’s interests, and civil rights. As a feminist, she fought to end gender discrimination. Ruth Bader Ginsburg stands out as a role model in a time when women right’s are questioned.

Hapsa
‘Hapsa’ is a communications officer working in the public sector in the south of Sweden. She has worked within the educational system ranging from preschool to higher education and believes education is an important key to a brighter, more equal world for all. The name is inspired by female activist Hapsa Khan and her efforts to make education accessible for the Kurdish women in Sulimania and the founder of the first women’s school in Iraq during the early 1900’s.

Huda
‘Huda’ was Born and raised in Cairo, Egypt. He lived throughout the Egyptian protests and eventually the history-changing revolution. He considers himself lucky enough to experience the Arab spring firsthand and for that he is grateful. Currently, he works as a lecturer at a renowned university in Europe. Equality in the post-colonial age is a topic of big influence and inspiration for him. Huda Sha’arawi is his choice of pseudonym. When it comes to female equality and protests against colonial powers, She is a great inspiration to him. Huda Sha’arawi was an Egyptian nationalist and the founder of the Egyptian Feminist Union. In 1919, she led a women-led protest advocating for Egyptian independence from British colonization and the release of male nationalist leaders.

Nabawiyya
‘Nabawiyya’ is a communications and development officer based in Cyprus. She is interested in the intersection between human rights and gender in the Middle East. Her pseudonym is inspired by Nabawiyya Moussa, an Egyptian woman who worked to further education, promote health, and reduce sexual exploitation.

Emma
‘Emma’ lives in the world’s highest major city and works there as a journalist and communications consultant, supporting movements for social justice and environmental protection. The Name is inspired by Emma Goldman and her fights for liberty and gender equality, against hierarchies, militarism, and capitalism.
