We have come across a whole palette of different communication styles and methods, including everything from alpacas to book bans to clicktivism, guided by the overarching question of \u201cwhat is legit activism\u201d?<\/p><p><strong>So, what is legit activism?<\/strong> The six of us have all been approaching this question from individual angles informed by our individual, yet interconnected, interests:<\/p><ul><li><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><a href=\"https:\/\/wpmu.mau.se\/nmict23group7\/author\/an7750\/\"><strong>Anges<\/strong><\/a><\/span> works as a journalist and writer, and wanted to take her interest in these subjects further with this blog. She mainly focused on discussing\u00a0 the <a href=\"https:\/\/wpmu.mau.se\/nmict23group7\/828\/how-is-that-illegit-activism\/#P005\">pros and cons of communication on blogs and social media<\/a> versus journalism, journalism having an <a href=\"https:\/\/wpmu.mau.se\/nmict23group7\/703\/the-illegitimacy-of-activist-communication-without-an-journalistic-ethical-framework\/\">ethical framework<\/a> which is audited by external parties, while blogs do not.<\/li><li><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/wpmu.mau.se\/nmict23group7\/author\/an6180\/\">Cecilia<\/a><\/strong>,<\/span> who is passionate about climate change communication, highlighted climate activists&#8217; use of everything from <a href=\"https:\/\/wpmu.mau.se\/nmict23group7\/488\/shaming-how-dare-you-communication-new-climate-activist-trend\/\">shaming how-dare-you communication<\/a>\u00a0 to <a href=\"https:\/\/wpmu.mau.se\/nmict23group7\/828\/how-is-that-illegit-activism\/#P004\">digital protest songs<\/a>\u00a0and satirical memes.<\/li><li><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/wpmu.mau.se\/nmict23group7\/author\/an4206\/\">Stefan<\/a><\/strong><\/span> discussed the related notions of <a href=\"https:\/\/wpmu.mau.se\/nmict23group7\/525\/silence-in-activism-is-that-legit\/\">silence<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/wpmu.mau.se\/nmict23group7\/828\/how-is-that-illegit-activism\/#P002\">symbolism in activism<\/a>, shining a light on his context of <a href=\"https:\/\/wpmu.mau.se\/nmict23group7\/965\/online-activism-under-censorship-chinas-2022-white-paper-protests\/\">activism in a system of heavy media control and censorship in China<\/a>.<\/li><li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/wpmu.mau.se\/nmict23group7\/author\/ab5678\/\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">Hampus<\/span><\/a><\/strong>\u00a0focused his blog posts on the <a href=\"https:\/\/wpmu.mau.se\/nmict23group7\/361\/the-mobilization-of-activists-fighting-against-book-banning\/\">mobilization of activists fighting against book banning<\/a>, as well as how <a href=\"https:\/\/wpmu.mau.se\/nmict23group7\/828\/how-is-that-illegit-activism\/#P001\">the Anonymous collective<\/a> works with interactive communication and how \u201coperations\u201d are carried out in its name.<\/li><li><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/wpmu.mau.se\/nmict23group7\/author\/an6142\/\">Indigo <\/a><\/strong><\/span>has been exploring the power of digital dialogue which unites global citizens, transcends borders and cultures, amplifies marginalized voices, shares diverse perspectives, and forges connections that are <em>Lighting the Path to a More Inclusive and Informed Global Community<\/em>.<\/li><li><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/wpmu.mau.se\/nmict23group7\/author\/an3691\/\">Poli<\/a><\/strong><\/span> wants to keep the conversation going with questions about artwork as a form of activism, and how much awareness it raises. Contact Poli through <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/polianadias\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">LinkedIn<\/a>, and follow the initiative <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/company\/the-house-malmo\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The House<\/a>: we will turn Malm\u00f6 the women in entrepreneurship city by 2030.<\/li><\/ul>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-7787a359 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"7787a359\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h6 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Now, back to our original Question: Is that legit Activism?\u00a0\u00a0<\/h6>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-79ec028f elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"79ec028f\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>While the digital space may have changed activism in many ways, and while these changes may be seen as positive or negative depending on the objective pursued and the perspective taken, we find that none of the changes and differences we observe between analogue and digital activism take away their legitimacy. As everything else, activism too, evolves. Activism back in the day may have been different, but there is little point in measuring the legitimacy of activism these days against that standard.<\/p><p>We hope that in our exploration of (il)legit activism in digital spaces throughout our posts, we have occasionally been able to stop you for a moment of critical reflection.
