Reflecting upon module 2 and what I have learned so far in our course, Digital Learning Design in Higher Education, I have especially thought about accessibility. The web as a Human Right, and awareness of Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) (see W3C, Web Accessibility Initiative, n.d.; W3C Web Accessibility Initiative, 2019) are important aspects related to accessibility. From a holistic view I also want to emphasize the general importance of that teachers try to manage the different needs that may exist in student groups, despite a lack of diagnoses.
As Conceição and Howles, I emphasize the importance of “learner empathy” (2020, s. 37) in designing online courses (and in other courses). This is “the foundation of learner experience design” (2020, s. 37). This means to try to take the perspective of the learners. What are their needs? To talk and to listen to the students are of great importance. If the content to learn feels relevant depends (among other things) on how manageable and meaningful the learning activities are. As a teacher I want to create spaces that make it possible to construct and applicate knowledge! This includes possibilities för reflection.
