About us

Welcome to CoffeeOverData, a blog about what it means to live in a datafied world written from the point of view of tech aficionados interested in helping create a more equal and fair world.

Expect posts that run the gamut between exploring what exactly are data and datafication to the potential impact of blockchain technologies and crypto currencies may have in the Global South.

Our team aims to critically explore the ways in which digital technologies impact people depending on their spatial and societal context. This is because we are interested in creating a better world for everyone, but also understand that while technology can be a key tool in positive development, it is all too often misused or misunderstood. Because of this, we hope to critically engage with different aspects of digital media and technology to understand how and why technology can go wrong, and what we can do to prevent it.

Lorenzo:
After a Bachelor of Science in Communication Studies and years of working experience in marketing communication, Lorenzo entered the education field. Here, he took on the challenge of teaching young students, facilitating their growth as independent learners and critical thinkers, as well as empowered advocates for equality and a more sustainable future. Lifelong learner himself, Lorenzo is currently pursuing a Master’s in C4D at Malmö University.

 

Talia:
Talia is a cultural analyst with a background in English literature and linguistics. She is interested in decolonial and gender studies and has both worked and volunteered with several NGOs. She is currently working as a freelance project manager and SocMed communication specialist. Always wanting to learn more, she is a prospective PhD student and is studying her second MA at Malmö University.

 

Stefan:
Having obtained his Bachelor of Communication Stefan worked as an international marketing & communication coordinator for over 2 years. After having left the communication field for some time, he is now studying Communication for Development at Malmö University in order to work towards having the best impact on our world. He is a student for life, always looking to develop himself, believing that he can learn valuable lessons from anyone and anywhere.

 

Clara: 
She likes coffee but her addiction is to pugs and dogs in general. Originally from Stockholm, Sweden but based in Zurich, Switzerland, Clara works in the creative field and is specialised within video and visual communication with a background in television and advertising. Currently learning how to use communication and creative creations for a positive change. She likes to dance like no one (except her pug ‘Sir Francis’) is watching, and get into philosophical discussions with strangers.  

 

Hamzah:
Based in Brussels, Hamzah has the privilege to enjoy his coffee  with his friends in French, Dutch and English. He studied Marketing for his bachelors learning about how the commercial world operates. He was intrigued about how communication can also be used for a positive social change. To practice his curiosity, he is currently studying Communication for Development at Malmö University.

 

Michela:
A legal experience in the past, a present as a digital communication specialist. She moved to Brussels to fulfill her desire to work in an international environment for an NGO and, after a few years, she moved back to Italy for supporting social innovation challenges in her hometown. Always curious, passionate about mountains, yoga, and local food. She’s currently enrolled in the MA C4D at Malmö University.
