Coffee over data writers: Introducing Michela

Coffee over data writers: Introducing Michela

If I have to be honest with you, I am drinking my third cup of coffee while writing my first post for the blog. It is part of my daily routine, and it gives me comfort – also energy. I cannot recall the first time I drank coffee for the first time, it could have been when I was 16 y.o. Then, a few years ago, I stopped drinking it for a while; I was genuinely curious to see what could happen. I experienced headaches, no concentration and I kept falling asleep at every time and everywhere. It lasted more or less 4 days.

This helped me to get to know me better and learn how to have a more balanced relationship with coffee. I know, for example, that

  1. I prefer when it is done with the moka (because it is also stronger)
  2. coffee’s ice cream flavor is one of my favourite
  3. when I am on holidays I tend to drink it more, because it is a moment I love to share with friends and family.

[At the moment I am learning how to recognise different flavors, and how to best blend them – are you an acidic-kind-of coffee-drinking person or do you like it smoother?]

At least, we could say I am definitely aligned with this part of the blog. What about data, then?

Why are you here?

During the next weeks I will try to dive into this world and bring you on board. I don’t know you, but I can tell you may have had a similar experience with data like me. For a millennial with a non-scientific background, data has always been fascinating. Sometimes, cruel. The tech industry seems to be an exclusive circle made for technologists. The reality speaks about lack of diversity and representation of marginalized communities, even if technology affects everyone.

The journey with this blog will be identifying some of the issues of living in a datafied world. The goal is to reflect together on the challenges and the possibilities that digital technologies are opening. Over a cup of coffee.
